More Windstorms and Rainfall Expected Across Pakistan – Met Office Issues Alert

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has issued a fresh weather advisory, warning of windstorms, rain, and thunderstorms expected to affect various parts of the country between 27th to 31st May. The forecast includes occasional heavy rainfall, hailstorms, and lightning, especially in the upper and central regions.

🌧️ What’s Happening?

Moist currents are continuously entering the upper and central regions of Pakistan, and a westerly wave is expected to move in by May 28th. Under the influence of this weather system, several cities are expected to experience severe weather conditions during the week, with occasional gaps.


⚠️ Affected Areas (27th–31st May)

Windstorm/Rain-Thunder (with possible heavy falls & hailstorm):

  • Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan

  • Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat

  • Northern Punjab: Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, Waziristan

Windstorm with Light to Moderate Rain-Thunder (27th–30th May):

  • Southern & Western Regions: Zhob, Ziarat, Barkhan, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Vehari, D.I. Khan


🌪️ Potential Hazards

  • Windstorm/dust-thunderstorm/hailstorm and lightning could damage:

    • Loose structures

    • Electric poles and power lines

    • Trees, vehicles, rooftops

    • Solar panels and outdoor equipment
