ISLAMABAD — The Government of Pakistan has announced sweeping changes to Pakistan import duties, cutting taxes on nearly 7,000 items in its Budget 2025–26. The move is aimed at easing inflation, supporting industrial production, and making essential goods more affordable nationwide.


🏭 Lowered to Boost Industry

To stimulate manufacturing, the government has reduced Pakistan import duties on a wide range of raw materials:

  • Chemicals like magnesium, carbon dioxide, and nickel now taxed at just 2.5%

  • Paints, enamels, and varnishes face reduced duties of 5%

  • Cuts aim to reduce production costs in automotive, pharma, and textiles


🐟 Food Sector Benefits from Pakistan Import Duties Reform

Food security and affordability are a key part of the Pakistan import duties overhaul:

  • Imported chickens and livestock taxed at 5%

  • Live and frozen fish also see lowered duties

  • Encourages protein availability and stable food supply


🧀 Dairy, Vegetables & Fruits See Reduced

The government has reshaped Pakistan import duties for key food items:

  • Milk, butter, yogurt, and cream — Flat 20% duty

  • Cheese at 40%, honey at 24%

  • Vegetables (canned/frozen/dried) — 5%–10%

  • Fruits like dates, apples, and peaches20%–36%

  • Wheat flour, maize, pasta, cornflakes15%–20%

  • Betel leafRs400/kg, pineapple40%

These changes are expected to help lower food inflation and ease household spending.


🚗 Pakistan Import Duties Revised for Used Car Imports

In a significant shift, Pakistan import duties on used vehicles will change:

From September 2025, commercial imports of used cars (up to 5 years old) will be allowed at 40% duty, falling to 0% by July 2029.

This phased approach aims to legalize and streamline the used car market while providing affordable transportation.
