Pakistan Centre of Excellence in Gaming and Animation to Boost Digital Industry
Pakistan has officially launched its first-ever Centre of Excellence in Gaming and Animation (CEGA), a groundbreaking initiative by the Ignite National Technology Fund aimed at revolutionizing the Pakistan gaming industry. The Rs. 2.52 billion project, awarded to M/s HUM Networks, formally began on August 1, 2025, following a year-long competitive bidding process and rigorous evaluations. The state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for training, innovation, and industry development over the next five years and three months.
A Major Step for Pakistan’s Gaming Industry
The CEGA is designed to position Pakistan as a key regional competitor in the multi-billion-dollar global gaming and animation sector. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, co-working spaces, and specialized training programs, the center will empower young professionals with high-demand digital skills. Ignite estimates that the facility will generate significant career opportunities, boost the digital economy, and help Pakistan secure a larger share of the rapidly expanding gaming and animation market.
Strong Market Potential for Growth
Pakistan’s gaming industry already earned approximately $170 million in revenue last year, with over 8,000 skilled professionals actively contributing to the sector. The country’s robust ICT talent pool produces more than 30,000 graduates annually, supported by 195 million mobile subscribers and 119 million 3G/4G users. Combined with a young, English-speaking population, these factors create an ideal environment for the Pakistan gaming industry to flourish.
From Vision to Reality
The journey to CEGA’s launch began in May 2024 with a detailed multi-stage procurement process, including technical and financial evaluations, grievance hearings, and oversight by the Finance & Procurement Committee. HUM Networks was approved as the project partner in May 2025, and the contract was signed on July 15, 2025. The facility will operate under Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules, ensuring transparency and compliance at every stage.
Driving Innovation in Digital Media
Ignite officials are confident that CEGA will enhance Pakistan’s creative and technical capabilities, inspiring a new wave of innovation in digital media. By blending technology, arts, and media, the center will produce solutions for both local and global markets while fostering a sustainable ecosystem for gaming and animation.
With the CEGA, Pakistan is not only investing in its creative talent but also strengthening its position in the global digital economy. Industry experts believe this is a defining moment for the Pakistan gaming industry, with the potential to create thousands of jobs, attract foreign investment, and place the country firmly on the world map of gaming innovation.
