Karachi Traffic Plan Announced for University Road
In an effort to manage the flow of vehicles during ongoing construction, Karachi authorities have introduced a new traffic management plan for University Road. The plan has been implemented to facilitate work on the K-4 water supply project, a part of the Karachi Water and Sewerage System Improvement Project (KWSSIP).
According to officials, the new traffic arrangement will remain in effect from November 10 to December 30, during which sections of the main University Road will remain closed for pipeline installation. The road closure covers the stretch between NIPA Chowrangi and Federal Urdu University, one of the busiest routes in Karachi. To minimize congestion, traffic will be diverted toward Aladin Park via NIPA Chowrangi, offering an alternate route for both private and public transport.
The service lane between Aziz Bhatti Park and Federal Urdu University has also been closed. Vehicles coming from Sir Syed University are being redirected toward Ghaziabad Road, while the section between Safari Park and Hasan Square remains open for limited traffic flow.

Purpose of the Project
This diversion is part of the K-4 Water Supply Project, which aims to resolve Karachi’s long-standing water shortage by laying 96-inch and 72-inch diameter pipelines under University Road. The current phase, supervised by KWSSIP engineers, covers a 2.7-kilometre stretch from NIPA Chowrangi to Federal Urdu University.
Once completed, this project will enhance the city’s water distribution system and support sustainable urban development. The second phase will extend from Hasan Square to NIPA Chowrangi, further strengthening the main water network that connects Karachi’s eastern corridor.
