Peshawar PSL Matches Confirmed for PSL 11
Peshawar PSL matches have been officially confirmed for the first time in Pakistan Super League history. The northwestern city will host matches of PSL 11 at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, formerly known as Arbab Niaz Stadium.
The announcement was made by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesperson Shafi Jan following a high-level security meeting in Peshawar.
He described it as the “biggest good news” for cricket fans in the province, adding that trophy roadshows will also take place across KP.
First Major Cricket Return Since 2006
The last international match held in Peshawar was on February 6, 2006, when Pakistan defeated India in a One Day International under the Duckworth Lewis method.
For nearly two decades, the city was sidelined from hosting international and major domestic matches due to security concerns and infrastructure limitations.
Although an exhibition match in June 2025 signaled a cautious return of cricket, PSL 11 will mark the first full scale franchise matches featuring international stars in Peshawar.

Officials stated that enhanced security measures and improved stadium facilities have now made hosting PSL matches possible.
The high-level meeting was attended by:
- KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi
- Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi
- Senior civilian and military officials
Authorities emphasized strict law and order planning to ensure a safe environment for players and spectators.
Zalmi Owner Calls It Historic
Peshawar Zalmi owner Javed Afridi called the decision a “historic moment for cricket lovers.”
He reaffirmed the franchise’s commitment to delivering strong performances on home soil, especially with a newly strengthened coaching setup ahead of PSL 11.
The 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League will begin on March 26, 2026, featuring eight franchises competing across multiple venues.
Historical Context of Cricket in Peshawar PSL
Peshawar was once a regular venue for international cricket in the 1980s and 1990s. However, security challenges in the mid 2000s led to the suspension of international matches.
The revival of PSL matches in the city reflects Pakistan’s broader efforts over the past decade to restore international cricket across the country. Cities like Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi gradually regained hosting rights before Peshawar’s long awaited return.
The decision signals growing confidence in improved security and infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
