British Pakistani Teen Breaks Four World Records, Secures Admission to Oxford University
An 18-year-old British-Pakistani student, Mahnoor Cheema, has stunned the academic world by breaking four global records and securing admission to the University of Oxford to study Medicine. Her achievements mark a new high in educational excellence for Pakistani-origin students worldwide.
24 A-Levels With Top Distinctions
Mahnoor completed 24 A-Level subjects with top distinctions, alongside an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), all through a single exam board — without repeating any components. This achievement set a world record for the most A-Level subjects completed with distinction by a single student.
She also earned 19 A and A grades*, breaking another record for the highest number of top grades in A-Levels.
Combining GCSE & A-Level Records
Her third world record combines 11 A grades in A-Levels* with her earlier 34 A grades in GCSEs/O Levels*, totaling 45 A grades* — the most ever awarded to a secondary school student globally.
The fourth record is for the highest total number of subjects passed with distinction — 58 in total, including 24 A-Levels and 34 GCSEs.
Earlier Achievements at Age 16
Mahnoor had already set two global records at 16 years old by completing 34 GCSE subjects, including 17 A grades in Year 10*. Her academic journey reflects years of dedication, strategic learning, and strong family support.
Oxford Admission: A Dream Realized
Speaking from her home in Langley, West London, Mahnoor said:
“I’m thrilled to be joining Oxford this October. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited to start the next chapter of my life. I owe everything to my parents’ sacrifices and support.”
Her parents, Lahore natives Barrister Usman Cheema and Tayyaba Cheema, moved to the UK in 2006 to pursue higher education. Mahnoor attended Langley Grammar School and Henrietta Barnett School before completing her final year via homeschooling.
Recognition from Leaders & Beyond
Her accomplishments have been praised by prominent figures, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who called her “the daughter of the nation” and gifted her a MacBook, which she later used for her Oxford interviews.
A Multitalented Scholar
In addition to academics, Mahnoor:
Holds an AMusTCL diploma in music (equivalent to an undergraduate degree)
Won gold medals in Acting and Public Speaking from LAMDA
Completed her EPQ in just 10 days with a perfect score
