Govt Orders Faster Progress on Key Motorway Projects in Pakistan

Govt Orders Faster Progress on Five Motorway and Highway Projects

Motorway projects: The Government of Pakistan has taken strong steps to speed up development on several major motorway projects and highways. Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan recently directed the National Highway Authority (NHA) to accelerate work on five key routes.

These include major motorways such as the M-6, M-10, and the highly trafficked Naran-Kaghan highway, all aimed at easing traffic flow and boosting economic development.

Rs. 150 Billion Allocated for Road Development
In a high-level meeting on infrastructure, Minister Aleem Khan revealed that Rs. 150 billion will be invested this fiscal year from NHA’s own funds to upgrade national roads.

Of this, Rs. 100 billion has been dedicated to the Karachi-Quetta-Chaman (N-25) highway in Balochistan. Construction on this project is expected to begin shortly and is seen as a major leap forward in national connectivity.

Future Motorways to Have Six Lanes
To improve long-term road capacity, the minister ordered that all future motorway projects must have at least six lanes. This decision reflects the government’s strategy to prepare for population growth, rising vehicle numbers, and future trade expansion.

Khan also emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships to bring in private sector investment and share project risks.

Priority Projects to Reach 90% Completion
The NHA has been instructed to ensure that top priority motorway projects reach at least 90% completion within this year. Once these milestones are hit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will inaugurate completed sections.

This push shows the government’s desire to deliver fast, visible results that benefit all provinces equally.

Balanced Development Across All Provinces
The minister also announced that all pending road proposals for Gilgit-Baltistan have been approved. He directed NHA officials to make sure that every province receives equal attention and that planning aligns with regional needs.

In addition, rumors about the Lahore-Kasur project being linked to Raiwind were dismissed, confirming that the project serves broader regional connectivity, not political interests.

Conclusion

The government’s aggressive push on these motorway projects highlights its commitment to modern infrastructure and balanced regional development. With huge investments and tight deadlines, Pakistan’s road network is set to expand faster than ever before.
