Grand Mosque Cooling System Activated for Hajj 2025
The world’s largest Grand Mosque cooling system has been officially activated ahead of the Hajj 2025 pilgrimage. Saudi authorities launched this state-of-the-art system to provide comfort to millions of pilgrims visiting the Holy Mosque in Makkah during the intense summer heat. The move highlights the Kingdom’s continued dedication to facilitating safe, comfortable, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimages for Muslims from around the world.
Massive Cooling Power to Serve Millions
The system boasts a record-breaking cooling capacity of 155,000 tons. It is engineered to maintain the Grand Mosque’s internal temperature between 22°C and 24°C, ensuring a cool and controlled environment during one of the busiest annual religious gatherings in the world.
With rising global temperatures, this project has become a cornerstone in Saudi Arabia’s modernization and hospitality strategies for Hajj and Umrah pilgrims. Keeping the mosque temperature stable also prevents health issues like heatstroke, dehydration, and respiratory ailments.
Two Major Stations Behind the Cooling Power
The cooling setup operates through two key stations:
- Al-Shamiya Station: Delivers a massive 120,000 tons of cooling.
- Ajyad Station: Adds another 35,000 tons to support the entire mosque and expansion areas.
These facilities work continuously to regulate temperatures throughout the Holy Mosque complex. The setup is also integrated with energy-efficient systems to minimize environmental impact while maintaining maximum comfort.
Advanced Air Purification for Safe Worship
In addition to its powerful cooling capabilities, the system features advanced air filtration technology. It removes up to 95% of dust and airborne particles, improving air quality and reducing the risk of respiratory issues for pilgrims.
Clean air is essential for maintaining health during large gatherings, especially when pilgrims often include elderly individuals and people with pre-existing conditions. The filtration system ensures a cleaner, safer worship environment.
SOP-Driven Innovations for Pilgrims’ Wellbeing
The launch of the Grand Mosque cooling system is part of a broader initiative by the General Presidency for the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet’s Mosque. This effort ensures that safety, hygiene, and environmental SOPs are met throughout the Hajj season.
Technology and tradition are being integrated like never before, with AI-based monitoring, crowd control systems, and real-time environmental sensors deployed across the mosque.
Saudi Arabia’s Continued Commitment
This technological marvel reflects Saudi Arabia’s unwavering commitment to improving the Hajj experience. By implementing the world’s largest mosque cooling and purification infrastructure, the Kingdom demonstrates its dedication to the wellbeing and spiritual focus of the global Muslim community.
With more than two million pilgrims expected this year, Saudi authorities are ensuring that every effort is made to provide a safe, spiritually enriching, and comfortable pilgrimage journey.
