Pakistan Bangladesh Trade Cooperation has taken a major step forward as Pakistan offered Bangladesh the use of Karachi Port to enhance bilateral trade and strengthen regional connectivity. The development marks a new chapter in economic collaboration between the two South Asian nations after two decades.
Joint Economic Commission Meeting
The offer was made during the ninth session of the Pak-Bangladesh Joint Economic Commission (JEC) held in Dhaka after a 20-year gap. Both countries agreed to expand cooperation in multiple sectors including trade, energy, information technology, education, health, and tourism.

Scholarship and Training Opportunities
As part of this renewed partnership, Pakistan proposed 500 fully funded scholarships for Bangladeshi students to study in Pakistan. Additionally, the number of technical training seats offered to Bangladeshi professionals will be increased from 5 to 25, promoting skill development and academic exchange.
Halal Certification and Quality Assurance
An important Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Pakistan Halal Authority and the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institute. This agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in certification, standardization, and quality assurance for halal products, paving the way for smoother trade in the food and processing industries.
Regional Connectivity and Economic Growth
By offering Bangladesh access to Karachi Port, Pakistan aims to create a strategic trade route that connects Bangladesh, China, and Central Asian countries. This initiative could help boost exports, reduce transportation costs, and open up new business opportunities for both countries in regional markets.
