Punjab Monthly Stipend Announced for Visually Impaired
The Punjab Government has officially approved a monthly allowance of Rs. 12,000 for 5,000 registered visually impaired individuals. This initiative, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, aims to uplift and empower the visually impaired community across the province through financial support and social inclusion.

According to an official statement from the Social Welfare and Bait-ul-Mal Department, the stipend program reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to provide equitable opportunities for differently abled citizens. Talks with Visually Impaired Representatives
The announcement came after successful negotiations between government officials and representatives of visually impaired protesters. On the directives of Social Welfare Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt, the Director General Tariq Qureshi and senior department members held multiple meetings to address the community’s long-standing concerns. The resolution of these discussions led to the final approval of the stipend plan.
New Job Quota Implementation
In addition to the monthly allowance, the Punjab government has also introduced a dedicated job quota for visually impaired individuals within the existing 3% disability quota. All provincial departments have been directed to immediately enforce this new policy and advertise positions accordingly. This measure ensures equal employment opportunities for visually impaired citizens across various government sectors.
Educational and Welfare Measures
The government’s welfare reforms are not limited to stipends. The Government College University (GCU) Lahore Syndicate has also taken a major step by approving full tuition fee waivers for students with physical disabilities. The decision, made during the university’s 72nd Syndicate meeting, marks a milestone in inclusive education.
Key welfare measures at GCU also include:
- Health insurance for faculty members
- Higher remuneration for staff
- Reduced PhD and daycare fees
