Pakistan Hangor Submarine: Third Chinese-Built Vessel Launched in China<\/strong><\/p>\n

Wuhan | August 16, 2025 \u2014 The Pakistan Hangor Submarine program marked a major milestone on Friday as the Navy launched its third Chinese-built submarine in Wuhan, China. The induction strengthens Pakistan\u2019s naval power and deepens defense cooperation with Beijing.<\/p>\n

Strategic Importance of the Pakistan Hangor Submarine<\/strong><\/p>\n

The newly launched Pakistan Hangor Submarine is a diesel-electric attack vessel equipped with advanced sensors and modern weapon systems. According to naval officials, it will significantly enhance Pakistan\u2019s underwater warfare capabilities and help maintain a balance of power in the region.<\/p>\n

Vice Admiral Abdul Samad, Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects-2), said:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Hangor-class submarine\u2019s cutting-edge weaponry and sensors will sustain regional power equilibrium and ensure maritime stability.\u201d<\/p>\n

Strengthening Pakistan-China Defense Ties<\/strong><\/p>\n

The launch of the Pakistan Hangor Submarine comes shortly after Pakistan inducted Chinese Z-10ME attack helicopters and expanded its JF-17 fighter jet fleet. This reflects Islamabad\u2019s growing reliance on Beijing for advanced defense technology.<\/p>\n

The collaboration is particularly crucial following recent tensions with India, where both nations exchanged missile, drone, and artillery strikes.<\/p>\n

The Hangor-Class Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the landmark deal with China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC), Pakistan will acquire eight Hangor-class submarines.<\/p>\n

Four submarines are being built in China.<\/p>\n

Four more will be produced at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited under a transfer-of-technology program.<\/p>\n

The first two submarines were launched in 2024, with phased deliveries continuing in the coming years.<\/p>\n
