The opportunity lies in harnessing vast mineral reserves that remain largely untapped, according to industry leaders.<\/p>\n<p>Shamsuddin A. Shaikh, CEO of National Resources Limited (NRL), shared this vision during his keynote at the Natural Resources &amp; Energy Summit 2025 in Karachi. He emphasized that although Pakistan contributes just 0.15% of global mineral output and 2\u20133% of GDP, it holds 92 known minerals, of which nearly 90% are unexplored.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key Mining Projects Driving Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Several mega projects already underway are expected to transform Pakistan\u2019s mining landscape:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reko Diq: Estimated to generate $4\u20135 billion annually<\/li>\n<li>Siah Diq: Could add $1\u20132 billion per year<\/li>\n<li>Thar Coal Expansion: Projected revenue of $200 million<\/li>\n<li>Barite, Lead &amp; Zinc: Expected $100 million annually<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Combined, these ventures could add billions to Pakistan\u2019s economy within five years. Mining development can:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Generate thousands of new jobs<\/li>\n<li>Improve housing and healthcare in remote areas<\/li>\n<li>Boost education in resource-rich regions<\/li>\n<li>Strengthen energy security and foreign exchange reserves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Muhammad Sohail Tabba, Chairman of Lucky Cement and Lucky Core Industries, highlighted how mining could uplift rural provinces, creating long-term prosperity and peace.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Role of Insurance and Risk Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speakers at the summit also underscored the importance of insurance in sustaining billion-dollar mining projects.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hassan R. Muhammadi, Founder of Fidelity Insurance Brokers, called mining and energy \u201cengines of growth\u201d that require robust financial protection.<\/li>\n<li>Khurram Ali Khan, CEO of Fidelity Insurance Brokers, stressed that \u201cinsurance provides the safety net that keeps projects moving and investors confident.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Challenges Ahead for Mining Sector Growth<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Despite massive potential, experts warned of obstacles that need urgent attention:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Inconsistent government policies<\/li>\n<li>Weak regulatory frameworks<\/li>\n<li>Shortage of skilled human resources<\/li>\n<li>Climate and environmental risks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To overcome these hurdles, Pakistan must adopt technology, innovation, and strong governance to ensure mining growth translates into sustainable national development.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Way Forward<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Natural Resources &amp; Energy Summit 2025, themed \u201cPowering Progress: Risk, Resilience, and Innovation in Energy and Emerging Resource Sectors,\u201d brought together policymakers, investors, insurers, and international experts.
